Congress Clears Five-Year Extension for Federal Earthquake Program

Legislation has just been passed to continue the multi-agency National Earthquake Hazards Reduction program for at least 5 more years. authorizing $735 million in additional funds through 2023. The program supports research in the development of an early warning system and identifying areas susceptible to damage from liquefaction, landslides and other seismic induced hazards. Additionally, it helps support a FEMA grant program given to states for mitigation, preparedness and response plans.
