The Need to Stay Focused Yet Flexible

January 15, 2025 by Richard Galli -- Article Archive

Every New Year, much like many of you, I take a moment to reflect on my life—my family, my work, and the world around us. As I ponder our current circumstances and the journey that brought us here, I am reminded of the vital role that resilience and adaptability play in overcoming challenges. It’s impossible to ignore the significant shifts unfolding globally.

Daily news reports remind us of various conflicts, political instability, the unpredictable nature of technological advancements, and the pressing challenges posed by climate change, alongside physical and mental health struggles.

In light of these realities, our primary focus remains steadfast on the core mission of our business and the well-being of our people. Yet, we must also be flexible in the face of change, as it can help us navigate adversity. As a few of my military friends say, “Semper Gumbi”—always flexible!

From our vantage point, the fundamental threats to businesses and their missions are likely to remain consistent. Explosive attacks continue to pose a significant risk, as chemical materials are relatively easy to manipulate and widely accessible.

Similarly, ballistic threats, particularly from small arms, remain a concern due to their availability and ease of manufacture—highlighted recently by the tragic killing of United Health Care CEO Brian Thompson. Vehicle ramming incidents, like the one in New Orleans, further illustrate the ongoing threat landscape.

Moreover, we cannot overlook the pervasive challenges presented by cyber threats, including hacking, intellectual property theft, and insidious compromises to both software and hardware.

While Stone Security Engineering does not specialize in weather analysis, mental health, or cybersecurity, we understand the importance of adopting a holistic approach to the threat landscape.

Security is not built on a single pillar; rather, it requires the integration of multiple components. No building or space can ever be constructed strong enough to entirely halt all threats. Instead, the safest and most secure environments rely on a comprehensive strategy that integrates multiple fronts, ensuring resilience in an ever-changing world.
